Hello hello, I'm Michelle, the creator of this website on hanfu! I’m an illustrator
and I love to include elements of my Chinese heritage into my pieces. One of the ways
I do that is through hanfu. I’ve included some other related pieces I've created to the
left. If you like them, you can follow more of my art at @liramic on
Instagram and
Twitter!
I made this site for a school project but hanfu has been something I've been interested
in for a really long time! I love the idea of bringing these traditional and ancient
styles into modern fashion and they’re very different from the Qipao (旗袍) and
Tangzhuang (唐装) you usually see as representing Chinese traditional clothing. I've
been fascinated by these styles for so long but never really took the time to delve
into what each type is called and the distinctions between each one. This project
gave me the opportunity to do so!
I absolutely loved reading through all the hanfu forums and the Baidu Baike pages
about the most common styles and how they’re distinguished. Please note, though, that
the styles discussed on this site are the modern appearances of the styles in the
Hanfu Movement and not their historically accurate versions! I’ve also linked all
the resources I used for the information on this site, though they are mostly in Chinese.
